About Slingerbulten

Let me introduce you to Slingerbulten Restaurant, a spot in Stockholm that feels instantly welcoming the moment you step onto Stora Nygatan. When people talk about Slingerbulten, they usually mention its relaxed, down-to-earth energy first, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it stand out. It’s the kind of restaurant where conversations flow easily, the atmosphere feels lived-in rather than staged, and you’re encouraged to settle in and enjoy yourself rather than rush through a meal. Whether you choose to dine indoors or grab a table outside when the weather allows, Slingerbulten manages to balance a casual vibe with a clear respect for quality food and drink. The menu leans into variety without trying too hard, offering small plates that are perfect for sharing, vegetarian options that don’t feel like afterthoughts, and comforting choices that pair well with a long evening. Alcohol is very much part of the experience here, with a solid selection of beer, wine, cocktails, and spirits that suit both spontaneous drop-ins and more planned visits. At the same time, coffee is treated with equal care, making Slingerbulten just as appealing for a laid-back afternoon as it is for a lively night out. Service options are flexible, which adds to its everyday appeal-you can dine in, enjoy outdoor seating, order takeaway, or even opt for delivery when staying in sounds better. What I personally like about Slingerbulten is how easy it is to recommend; it doesn’t demand a special occasion, yet it works perfectly when you want something a little nicer than the usual. The restaurant fits naturally into its Stockholm surroundings, feeling both local and approachable, and it’s the kind of place you remember not because it shouts for attention, but because it quietly delivers a consistently good experience centered on comfort, flavor, and choice.

We had lunch at a cozy restaurant in Stockholm’s Old Town and were pleasantly surprised by their business lunch menu. The atmosphere is warm and authentic, with a true Scandinavian feel. The starter buffet with crispbread, beans, vegetables and creamy butter was simple yet tasty, a nice way to begin the meal. For the main course, I had fish with baby potatoes and vegetables in a light tomato-based sauce — fresh, healthy, and very satisfying. The portion size was just right, leaving room for dessert or coffee afterwards. Service was quick and friendly, and the whole experience felt relaxed and unhurried — perfect for a midday break while exploring the city. The lunch menu is a great value for money, and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re visiting Gamla Stan.

A “lagom” place for Swedish cuisine, I’ve been here for both lunch and dinner and the food quality in general is above average. The deer meat was very tender and juicy, the gamy taste was pleasant and not overwhelming. The cured salmon was a bit stinking fishy, but the fish soup was flavorful. The pricing was very moderate and the atmosphere was chill. However when we were there for dinner, our main course didn’t come until one hour after we finished the starters.

Very good and crispy schnitzel, nice veal too, good sauces, a bit boring potato dish to go with it. Reasonably priced considering the location. It's nice with outdoors seating when the weather is good, but not so nice with cars driving a few centimeters away, not the restaurants fault as such, but the road here really shouldn't be open to car traffic.

If you're in Stockholm, this restaurant is a must-visit. It's located in the heart of Gamla Stan. The value for money is excellent. Hats off to the young man with the beard, he is the jewel of the restaurant. Very friendly and professional. You must reserve a table. I tried to reserve the same day, and everything was already full.

Recommended by a local guide for the best Swedish meatballs, Slingerbulten did not disappoint! We tried both the meatballs and the fried herring from the lunch menu. While both were delicious, the fried herring was the star—the skin was perfectly crispy and the meat was moist and tasty. The lunch also includes a great salad buffet and coffee or juice. Just a heads up, they don't accept reservations for lunch, despite what the Google map might suggest.

We took a chance without a reservation around 13:30 (after changing of the Guard) and luckily found two spots at the bar. The atmosphere was incredibly cozy—perfect for lunch. We ordered the Swedish meatballs and the smoked salmon, inspired by years of eating at that famous Swedish furniture store back home ... and let me tell you, that store's food now seems terrible in comparison! This is the real deal. It was also very affordable (approx. €15 per person), which included the salad buffet, water, coffee, and bread. We will definitely be back!

Tried their Swedish meatballs and it was pretty decent. Great portions. Unfortunately everything had a very acidic touch and the mashed potato was a bit cold. But overall, great flavours and great service.

Warm welcome, great atmosphere Even though we arrived late for our reservation and our table had already been given away, the team at Slingerbulten still managed to accommodate us — a very warm and professional welcome. The ambience is cosy and charming, and the service throughout the evening was genuinely friendly. We started with the slow-cooked pork and the grilled goat cheese — both very well prepared and a strong opening. For the mains we chose: • Slingerbultens köttbullar — homemade meatballs with lingonberries, pickled cucumber, cream sauce and potato purée • Stekt strömming — Baltic herring with lingonberries and clarified butter Both dishes were excellent, well-balanced in flavor and very satisfying. Overall, Slingerbulten is clearly a recommendation when visiting Stockholm — a reliable, cosy place with good food and great service.
